WHO WE ARE

We are a team of experts, scientists and students based on the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU Prague). Our work is closely connected with the fate of the largest antelope of the world, the giant eland.

We are making the best of the connection of academia and non-profit sector for biodiversity conservation.

We have more than 20 years of experience in the antelope conservation in the African savanna. We provide scientific evidence for the conservation management decisions, we build capacities for the antelope conservation and provide support for field operations. We campaign for the conservation of antelopes and the ecosystems.

We are Antelope Conservation.

OUR HISTORY

Antelope Conservation was established by a group of experts of the Institute of the Tropics and Subtropics (nowadays the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences) of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague which were involved in conservation of the critically endangered Western Derby eland in Senegal. The members of the association were involved in the conservation of this endangered ungulate since 2000, they reached remarkable successes and they got immense experiences not only in terms of ecology and scienitif approaches, but also in terms of cultural and political agents influencing the antelope conservation. The work of Czech experts was at first  funded by the Czech development aid, scientific grants, supported by university, numerous institutions and private persons. The last big project funded by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic was successfully ended in 2009. We managed to keep the work in Senegal since then, establishing first Derbianus Czech Society for African Wildlife (CSAW) in 2010 which became the main tool for conservation of the Western giant eland. In 2015, we changed our name to the NGO Derbianus Conservation and in 2023 we extended to Antelope Conservation. Since then we learned at lot a we widened our scope to provide our expertise and know-how to more antelope species in need. More information on our activities in each year can be found in our annual reports.
